A Bad Day is 24 Hours Wasted
Time that you will never get back again
When I woke up this morning I gave thanks to the creator for another day. Another (possibly) 24 hours that I get to spend with my family and friends. I was listening to the Modern Wisdom podcast again this week, like I do most days now during my morning commute and the guest speaker was Robin Sharma.
What I’ve learned from Robin and Tim Ferriss and almost every other successful person is that they have a morning routine. The morning sets the tone for your day. When, during the middle of the day, somebody drives past you too fast and gives you a light bumper bash, or someone cuts you off in traffic, or you are running late for a meeting, you don’t have time to set the tone.
You are most likely going to be reactive and give in to anger and frustration. That will affect the rest of your day and all you wish for is that the day is over. When you wish for the day to be over, you wish away precious minutes and hours. The clock doesn’t stop ticking. Sadly, not.
As human beings, we are emotional, we are fallible. We are trying all kinds of self-medication not to feel any. What if we consciously tried to feel joy? What if we caught ourselves in the first few minutes of that frustration?
And say: hold up Michelle, it doesn’t have to be this way. There is another way. You’ve just missed your train, but there is another one in 10 minutes. If it will make you late for work, decide at this moment that you are going to make up those 10 mins either at the end of your shift or at another time.
Then, stop thinking about it and enjoy the moment. Don’t leave it for too long because that will bother you. That’s how you take ownership of your day. If you can replicate that day after day, suddenly life becomes beautiful. You will still have your off days, but they will be the exception.
If you could visualise what your perfect day would be like, write it down. Get up 30 mins earlier and spend time by yourself. My two boys are still fast asleep, the house is quiet and I can sit in peace and do my writing.
Until you try it for yourself or figure out what works, you will keep missing beautiful days. In fact, the days are already beautiful, you just can’t see it because you are caught up in your circumstances and surroundings.
If you want to be in a better place 6 months from now, start today. Start today to map out the life you want. Life is made up of moments. These moments are all beautiful. There is no reason why you can’t make every day beautiful.
Feel free to share your beautiful moments!
Blessings,
