Do You Want Children?

Well, uhhmm. It’s a little too late for that question. I have 2 boys already.

I just read a headline that an estimated 45% of women will be single and childless by 2030. That’s a little over 6 years away. I’m not sure what your thoughts are, but it’s a little alarming to me.

As a Gen Xer, when I grew up most families were made up of two adults and children. I don’t think having children came as much as a thought to me when I became an adult, it was more a matter of when.

Of course, things have changed and women do have a choice now, as they always had, but now it may take some weighing up of the different options. Children are expensive, period.

My boys are now 13 and 14 and a half and I think my husband and I are only working to pay school fees and to save for college. Everything else is secondary.

This morning I was up at 06h00. The one boy had to be ready to go to the animal shelter at 08h00 where he was completing a few hours of community service.

The other boy had 2 basketball matches this afternoon. Every weekend is filled with something else and basketball. Both boys love the sport. Sometimes they play at different venues at the same time. Then I have to cut myself in half. Just joking. You get the picture.
