How Do You Want to be Remembered?
Beautiful memories only, please.
My father has been dead 10 years now and when I visit my home town there are still people coming up to me. First, they ask, are you Michael’s daughter? They might confuse me with my sister and ask, are you the one in Germany?
Once I’ve corrected them they will say, you know your father was a good man. You see, he liked to talk. I’m thinking to myself. I know this. It still brings a smile to my face, every time.
We are all chasing our goals daily or so we should, but do you sometimes stop and think, how do you want to be remembered?
It does not only have to be when you die. It can be when you leave college when you change jobs, when you move to a different city. Maybe at reunions? Although, I’m not sure about this last one.
I visited Cape Town and passed the office where I worked right after college for about 5 years. There were many unfamiliar faces, but one of the waiters approached me and said. Are you Michelle?
We had a long chat about all the people who left and who were still there and those who died. It was a long time ago. Suddenly someone came from the back and said, is that you Michelle? It was one of the girls who were still left.
