Live a Little, For Yourself

What are your plans for the weekend?

Does it involve friends and parties? Or a cooking class, because your friend invited you? Or do you have no plans? We, humans, are social beings, or so we’ve been taught from a young age. We go to school, attend birthday parties. We later attend college and form a new clique.

At work, if you are sitting by yourself and eating lunch alone (pre-pandemic), you may be considered weird. There is nothing wrong with socialising.
We need it. We are a person because of other persons.

However, once you have examined where you are in life and where you’d like to be, it may mean getting rid of some stuff and some people. That’s hard. Everyone will want to know why you don’t want to hang out with them anymore.

You come into this earth alone and you leave alone. What you do in between is totally up to you. We’ve been conditioned so much during our lifetimes. You have to belong to a group. Groups can be supportive, but when it comes at the expense of something else, something that you privately wish you could do. You don’t tell anyone and you just follow the crowd.

Most of life’s successes come from individual pursuits. There are only a few successful start-ups, most don’t succeed past the first 18 months.
There are only a few millionaires in your state or city. Why are so many of us in the ‘barely getting by middle’, or downright mediocre masses? We can’t separate ourselves from the crowds.

It takes more courage to unlearn these things. What do you do every holiday, every Thanksgiving and Christmas? I bet it was a little different last year, but were you impatiently waiting for things to get back to normal so you can go back to old practices and ways? Or were you one of those who saw the pandemic as a way to redirect your ways, to straighten your path?

We had a lot of time to think about what wasn’t working. It was the best time to try something new, change jobs, enroll on a new program. Even just getting in shape and doing more home-cooked meals. They say a healthy man wants many things, but a sick man only wants one thing. Don’t end up there.

There were fewer places to spend your money, so perhaps it was a good time to pay off some of the debt you have. Get your credit rating up. Put away some money for a rainy day. Perhaps some opportunities for self-improvement and growth have passed you by. New opportunities present themselves every day. You just need to be there to seize them.

It’s never too late to start. To build a better future for yourself. If you start someone may just see it and feel inspired to do the same. Someone is already secretly wishing they had the opportunities you have. If they could just get where you are. What you are doing with the lucky breaks that have come your way?

An opportunity to start a new job, a new business opportunity, a move to a new state where you can start over and move forward faster and anonymously because you are not held back by familiar faces and backgrounds. They are part of your past now.

Start today to live your best life. You already have all the tools in your possession. Just start!
