The start of the Krokodilberg Trail

Three friends and I decided to go hiking about 30 km drive away yesterday. We had to meet at 06h00 in the morning. That’s early for a Sunday and I had my doubts about whether to go along or not. I told myself I had nothing better to do and set my alarm.

Early in the morning we got to the start of the hike. There were already so many people out and about. They all decided to miss a few extra hours of sleep. Some families with small kids too. Luckily, I did not have to get up and get the boys ready as well.

It was a more strenuous hike than the ones we did before. We started hiking regularly on the weekends from about October onwards. At first, I thought that it wouldn’t last, that it would fizzle out. There is so much else to do on weekends. Our core group has about 6 hikers, some days we are more, some days less.

Yesterday we were 4. We are at various levels of fitness which is sometimes a challenge when some members want to go faster and others want to go slower. We reach a middle ground and generally set a pace that everyone is comfortable with.
